Weddings at Christ Church

A Church wedding is a special occasion where couples make solemn vows before God, their friends and their family. On your wedding day a new chapter of life begins.  We want to help couples make that day special and to enter into married life with a sense that every day needs also to be special.

Anyone who lives in the parish or who can show a special connection with Christ Church, is eligible to marry here (you don’t have to be a regular church goer).  If you are divorced and wish to re-marry in church, we may be able to help you, so please get in touch.

In order to establish if you live within the parish of Christ Church please click on the link below and enter your Postcode.

A Church Near You

If you decide to get married at Christ Church, the Vicar will have a few informal meetings with you to help you in your preparations for marriage and the wedding ceremony, there will also be a rehearsal approximately one week before.

Costs

There is a required legal fee for marrying in a church. This is set by the Church of England nationally and is the same for every church.
This basic legal fee includes the cost of the vicar, the church, calling your banns, a banns certificate, the marriage certificate, lighting and all administration. Please see the attached link for more details: https://www.yourchurchwedding.org/article/the-cost-of-church-weddings/

Other fees are added to this, such as the fees for an Organist, Verger, and any specific requirements that you may have – we are happy to discuss and help you plan your special day.

Banns of Marriage

Before your Wedding Day, we will read out your Banns of Marriage in our main Sunday service for three consecutive weeks – to which you will receive an invitation.   If you live outside of our Parish, you must have your Banns of Marriage read in the parish where you live. If you both live in separate parishes other than ours, your Banns will need to be read in both parishes before you are able to marry.
